An economy RSPS is built around progress you earn: levelling skills, killing bosses for drops, and trading with other players. Items have value because players had to get them, and a player-driven market, often a Grand Exchange, sets the prices. It's the closest thing to how most people play OSRS, usually with faster XP and extra content.
Players who enjoy the long game: building a bank, chasing rare drops, maxing skills and trading. Also players who like a fresh start on a server where the economy is still young.
XP rates and how long it takes to reach the content you want. Whether there's a working market with enough players trading. Which bosses and raids actually work. Ironman modes, if you play solo. What the server's store sells, and whether bought items affect the economy. Whether the server has reset or wiped before.
By votes cast this month. Anyone can vote for a server once every 12 hours, for free and without an account, and the ranking starts over on the 1st. Votes can't be bought, and ads never move a server up the list.
What's the difference between an economy server and a spawn server? On an economy server you earn your items; on a spawn server you can create them. Economy servers are about progress, spawn servers about instant action.
Can I play ironman on an economy server? Many offer it. See the Ironman RSPS list.
Do economy servers ever reset? Some run fresh worlds or seasons from time to time. Check the server's own announcements.
