Honestly, I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I spend tons of time outside—hiking, kayaking, even gardening—and I’ve had a few bad burns even though I thought I was being careful. I usually apply sunscreen once and wear a hat, but clearly that’s not enough. Do you guys have any real-life strategies that work long-term? I'm not just talking SPF numbers, but practical stuff you actually do every day outside.

I climb and cycle, so I’m outdoors for hours and trust me, sunscreen alone won’t cut it, especially if you’re sweating. I started reapplying every two hours religiously, and I carry those small sunscreen sticks in my pockets—they're less messy. I also invested in UV-protective sleeves and long-sleeve shirts. At first, I thought they’d be too hot, but the breathable ones actually help keep me cool. I also read this helpful guide recently that breaks down how sunburn works and gives specific advice depending on the activity you’re doing. Worth checking out if you’re serious about it: basics of chromatography. It even covers things like what to eat to help protect your skin naturally.

I jog a lot and even 30–40 minutes in the morning sun can take a toll. I started using a wide headband that covers part of my forehead and always run with light, UV-blocking clothes now. It’s wild how much difference just small habits can make.
